Twenty votes ’til ChaCha
Horrendous news about Charter Change was made public today: apparently, a move in the Lower House to amend the Constitution lacks only 20 more signatures for approval. This from Inquirer.net:
MANILA, Philippines—A move in the House of Representatives to amend the Constitution and bypass the Senate in the process is only 20 votes shy of the required number, indicating a plan to set aside next year’s balloting remains alive, Sen. Manuel Villar said Tuesday.
Should this move eventually be approved, it would mean the postponement of the presidential elections in 2010 and the extension of Gloria Arroyo’s stay in Malacañang.
We can’t afford to stand idly by as all this transpires. We cannot allow this radical change to be made to our Constitution not for national interest’s sake but for dirty politicans’ own political gain.
Pardon me for stating the obvious, but something to be done about this, and something has to be done soonest.
