Shame on you, Gloria
In her term as president of the Philippine Republic, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has had quite a few run-ins with infamy — the “Hello, Garci” brouhaha, corruption cases (that have not been resolved thus far), and now the Maguindanao massacre, which will remain in history as a blight of shame on our nation. Only one of these would have sufficed for a conscientious leader to resign his or her office in the ultimate act of honor.
Ah, but there’s the rub. Is she invested with honor?
This administration has allowed the Ampatuan warlords of Maguindanao Province to amass a magnitude of power and wealth that gave them the wherewithal to sow fear in their locality and even beyond. Locked in political debt, Gloria’s Malacañang remains inutile — or worse, turns a blind eye — towards the dichotomy that characterizes Maguindanao.
One of the poorest places to be found in the Philippines, Maguindanao Province has a governor whose family own mansions that would put Makati moguls to shame. Amaptuan clan members are ferried in convoys of luxury SUVs (that drive around various cities as if they owned the roads). On the other side of the coin is the average Maguindanao resident, who lives in a shanty, earning barely enough to feed his struggling family. And they live in fear of the Ampatuans.
In Davao City, the Ampatuans have at least two fortress-like mansions (that I’m aware of), the size of each boggles the mind.
Until now, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has issued nothing but hollow statements and ambivalent directives in answer to the Maguindanao massacre of Mangudadatu family members, media, lawyers and other innocent civilians last 23 November. Clearly, she has allowed her indebtedness to the Ampatuans to influence her actions. Or rather, her inaction. She is, therefore, an ineffectual and malevolent presence in Malacañang, certainly unfit to hold the presidency or any office in the Land.
Now, the Palace is mulling over declaring martial law in Maguindanao. Overreaction, if you ask me. What will work for this country is authoritative action: arrest and prosecute the criminals in the Maguindanao massacre. And in the meantime, due to the presence of implicating evidence — no matter how inconsequential — and in the spirit of command responsibility, Gov. Ampatuan’s resignation should be accepted by the national government forthwith.
Followed by Gloria’s. (Wishful thinking, I know, but at least that’s still something we can do without fear in this country.)
I am ashamed to have this person as our president. Many Filipinos feel this shame as well. If only she would resign and vow never to seek political power again, she would regain whatever honor she might still deserve.

“…If only she would resign and vow never to seek political power again, she would regain whatever honor she might still deserve.”
I think that would never happen, as what I’ve seen in News tonight, she already filed a COC (i think in Pampangga, pls correct me if Im wrong). This only shows that she’s consumed by her selfish desires…You’re sick!!!!
Nope, Gloria’s not gonna resign. By all indications, she’s going to hold on to power for as long as she possibly can.
